meet your speaker

Paul Munden Paul is an experienced commercial law barrister and chartered director. Over the last fifteen years Paul has served as general counsel on the board of the Business Link operation in London, a not for profit organisation helping London businesses overcome barriers to success. During this time Paul advised on a wide range of complex and politically sensitive commercial law issues, working with senior leaders in government and the civil service. Throughout his career Paul has championed the improvement of corporate governance standards in business, charitable and governmental organisations internationally.

Paul is chairman of the National Youth Music Theatre, a leading national charity for the arts. In previous assignments Paul has served on the Board of Mid Essex Primary Care Trust and represented the trust on the North Essex Cluster Board responsible for commissioning £1.5bn of healthcare services annually, the Legal Services Board (Consumer Panel), the body responsible for ensuring ongoing reform in legal services in the UK and has acted as special adviser to the board of the General Teaching Council for England. Professional credentials Paul recently served as lead tutor at the Institute of Directors with responsibility for designing the Institute’s governance courses and has responsibly for the chartered director governance syllabus. Paul has led chartered director courses within the UK, Europe, the Middle East and many other jurisdictions across the world. Paul has extensive experience in carrying out Board Effectiveness Reviews for boards in the private, third and public sectors.

Paul has worked with the boards of some of the world’s leading commercial, third sector and public sector organisations, including Credit Suisse, PwC, Samruk-Kazna, Bibby Group, Ford, John Lewis and many more globally recognised companies as well as a large number of UK SMEs. In the third sector Paul has assisted organisations such as the Global Project Management Institute, CFA Institute, Sport and Recreation Alliance, Peabody Trust, RIBA, NHS and the Local Government Association. Paul has also worked with a number of high profile international public sector bodies including the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority, National Lottery Ghana, India’s Corporate Governance Institute, the Islamic Development Bank and local authorities across the world.
