Programme outline

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the global economy was generally experiencing a decline in productivity growth, with many countries recording slow productivity growth since the 2008 financial crisis.

The productivity slowdown is considered one of the most impactful economic conditions of the last two decades, and is a complex problem, often referred to as the ‘productivity puzzle’.

An improvement in the rate of productivity growth would help drive up the rate of sustainable economic growth, which is the key to improving living standards. So what could be done to solve the puzzle?

Join us for the 2023 lecture at BAFTA, London, on 26th April 2023 where we will be joined by guest speaker Faisal Islam. Faisal will look into the challenges being faced and will address:

  • the state of UK productivity – where it is at the moment and how it got here
  • how UK productivity compares to other nations
  • the value of productivity and why it is important
  • how productivity can be improved
  • policy responses to productivity and the current policy landscape on productivity
  • productivity in the future – where it is likely to head and why

We look forward to welcoming you on 26th April.

  • Faisal Islam
