    Peter Shergold served in the British Army from 2005 to 2019 in various command and staff roles, leaving the forces as Officer Commanding Alma Company 2 YORKS.

    During his service he served in Iraq, Oman, Eastern Africa, Afghanistan and many other locations.

    After leaving the forces he became Director of Events for St John Ambulance, responsible for the provision of medical cover at 20,500 events run by the organisation, including the London Marathon and most premiership games.

    With the on-set on the pandemic, he was given the role of Deputy Strategic Commander, responsible for the provision of an organisational approach to delivery of over a quarter a million hours of support to the NHS in Ambulance and Hospital work.

    He then let the multimillion vaccination volunteer programme, recruiting, training and screening 30,500 volunteers to vaccinate England.

    On completion of this recruitment programme he joined Public Health England (UK Health Security Agency from 1st Oct 21) as the Director of Operations (West Midlands), where he is now responsible, as a Senior Civil Servant, for the provision of COVID-19 operations, as well as the thousands of health related incidents which occur outside of COVID.

    Peter lives in Birmingham, and in his spare time is an author, having had publish a history of the conflict in Oman (The War in Northern Oman: Muscat and the Sultanate of Oman, 1954-1962) and is a Trustee of a local charity which supports vulnerable people – Advocacy Matters. He also vaccinates people as a St John Ambulance volunteer, mainly at the Al Abas Mosque in Birmingham, where is enjoys practising his Arabic.
