Programme outline

Gift aid is a valuable source of income for charities but it is estimated that £560m of eligible gift aid is unclaimed each year, and that £180m is claimed when it shouldn’t be. Judith Pederzolli will cover how charities should consider whether they are maximising their claims, also whether all of the necessary conditions are being met to support their existing claims.

Leila Ong will cover VAT reliefs and exemptions available to charities, and how to minimise VAT leakage. She will look at the temporary ‘Partial Exemption Special Method’ application process introduced due to the COVID crisis.

Jayne Rowe will then give an overview of the overall impact of COVID on the charity sector.

The learning outcomes from PEM’s presentation include identifying:

  • Opportunities to increase your gift aid claims, and get claims right.
  • Available VAT reliefs and exemptions, and ensure input tax is being recovered correctly.
  • How the COVID pandemic has impacted the charity sector.

Who will benefit?

Those of you who are in charity finance roles – whether employed, or a volunteer.
