Overview

It’s been a strange time since March 2020 when COVID-19 impacted so many things, including face to face CIMA events. Even with a couple of days a week in the office, it’s easy to be ‘zoomed out’, so we’re really proud to offer an in-person flagship event at an iconic Bristol location with the CIMA President and other guests.

Don’t miss the chance to engage with your peers in the Area, reflect on how we’ve adapted, pick up some ideas and consider what comes next.

Our evening will offer plenty of time to chat and connect with fellow professionals, learn about a contemporary topic, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and hear a keynote speech from Tim Harford OBE, Financial Times’ Undercover Economist & BBC Radio 4 More or Less Presenter.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Accounting and finance professionals play a crucial role in helping organisations understand how ESG activities affects strategies and business models. The global trend to incorporate ESG data in mainstream financial reports is accelerating. As a management accountant, understanding the value of ESG information will helps you communicate better with your stakeholders, which enables organisational trust and success.

In these challenging times, organisations that have robust ESG strategies are valued for their commitment to sustainability and enjoy better financial performance. ‘Real ESG’ and sustainability is what Gen Z expect as consumers and potential employees.

Join us and our expert panel to understand what ESG is all about, ‘Going beyond the finance – our chance to get it right’. The panel will be joined by:

• Melanie Kanaka, FCMA, CGMA, CIMA President

• Andrew Harding FCMA, CGMA, Chief Executive, Management Accounting, AICPA & CIMA

• Nick Sturge MBE, Chartered Director and Strategic Adviser

• Tim Harford OBE, Financial Times’ Undercover Economist & BBC Radio 4 More or Less Presenter

Provocative Keynote

After a buffet and chance to mingle we’ll have the keynote speech and Q&A with Tim Harford OBE, Financial Times’ Undercover Economist & BBC Radio 4 More or Less Presenter, who better to speak during these volatile and unpredictable times about how management accountants shape decisions and help create long term value.

Venue – Mshed Museum

The event is being held at the MShed Museum and guests are welcome to enjoy a visit to the museum before the start time of 4pm. At the museum you can see the amazing films and photographs, listen to moving personal stories, encounter rare and quirky objects and add your own memories of Bristol through the interactive displays. From prehistoric times to the present day, MShed tells the story of the city and its unique place in the world.

Refreshments of a buffet and reception drink (and cash bar) are included during the evening.
